Ever had this pair of gorgeous, classy, wear-all-day-and-all-night-heels that just started to bite the dust…literally! After wearing some of my favorite heels to the ground (and below), I just could not resolve myself to letting them go (or taking the time to find another favorite pair of work and play heels, for that matter)…Well, seems like someone was listening to corporate sisters’ heel pleas all over the world, and came up with….yes, a heel repair kit! And one that we can actually use, without resorting to the hubby, Google or Wikipedia to decipher…

In line with our snow gear favorites, we’ve been eyeing this fabulous snow boot for a while now! And within reason, this is the Jimmy Choo of snow boots…literally! This Jimmy Choo “Cheshire” boot is available at Nordstrom for $375! With a rubber lining and sole, this pair of boots made in Italy, looks like it would combine ultra comfort with extra style. So if like myself, going “practical” is not exactly your favorite fashion route, this may just be the perfect compromise!
And frankly, this is one pair of boots I wouldn’t mind spending the day in…

It’s the new year, and with all the resolutions to excel at our careers, score great job interviews, and just be the best at whatever it is we decide to do, well, we can also get a personality fix with all of it…Because, of course, there’s an app for that…
Us+ is an art project/app that provides feedback about our personalities and the way we handle conversations. How does it do that? Well, by monitoring Google+ video chats and giving you feedback on how well (or how poorly) you did, including reads on your facial expressions and tone of voice!
While this may be hardly adaptable for more personal (or private…hum..conversations), it may constitute a great asset in professional situations. From prepping for interviews to improving our presentation and communication skills at work, this app may just help us acquire better career skills…and maybe, who knows, even a personality fix while we’re at it…

Winter is upon us here in the Northeast, and the elements are raging outside! As fashionable as we may be, seriously, we just have to surrender when the temperatures dip and our pretty faces are threatening to freeze over, and invest in some serious snow gear..Especially when we still have to make it to work through snow and rain, work at being a successful corporate sister, and still manage to do it all in style even as the weather is acting all kinds of crazy…That’s when we want a comfortable, warm and cozy jacket, minus the puffiness factor, to take us in and out of the office in style and warmth.

We wrote earlier about our 360 degree approach to networking, and right after hitting the “Publish” button, started asking ourselves why, despite all our emotional intelligence and social skills, women’s networks are still lagging behind…And this is especially true when it comes to Black and minority women’s networks. Although there certainly is an array of historical, as well as socio-economic reasons for this, there are also some popular myths and realities alike put there as to why women are less effective at networking than… their male counterparts, or just about everybody else for that matter:
- As women, we tend feel comfortable in our own circles. Hence, the “clicky” reputation we often have in the workplace, whether justified or not. Many of us are creatures of habit who thrive in familiar contexts. Yet, we also know how to rise to the challenge when needed, and although this popular view of women may be justified in some cases, in many others all that is needed is some unfamiliar, challenging situation coupled with a strong desire to produce results, and we may feel perfectly at ease in the most foreign of settings;
- As women, we don’t like to ask favors! Especially for us Black and minority women, in part due to our innate resilience born from a history of struggles, it can be hard to reach across the table and ask for assistance. It is well-known that “the worse a Black woman is doing, the better she looks.” And it is precisely because of this ingrown resilience and tough skin we’ve learned to live in, that we project this image that we have to admit, we also tend to live up to more often than not…just sayin’….
- As women, we are not too big on talking about ourselves! As much as we achieve in all the various areas of our lives, one particular area that we are not particularly good at displaying is the ability to talk about ourselves…in big, bold, bright terms, that is! Whether out of excessive humility, or out of sheer lack of appreciation for our own achievements, many times it comes easier to you to downplay our successes rather than showcasing our strengths and talents. And since a big part of networking is basically selling yourself (without looking like you are selling yourself), it often appears that we actually may be selling ourselves pretty short on this one….
