Last week, men’s runway shows were all the rage in London. And that got us wondering about menswear at the office. Is it appropriate to sport menswear at the office, and if so, which pieces are best suited for work environments?
Well, I do think menswear is not only uber-fashionable when worn the right way, but can add style and pizzazz to any professional wardrobe. These are my favorite menswear-inspired pieces for the office:
- The Blazer: If you couldn’t tell, we are very much into blazers (please check out
our post on Being Mary Jane fashion featuring the blazer). For our pick, we saw this Trouve three-pocket blazer from Nordstrom on MSN that just made us gasp (in a good way!). With skinny elongated lapels and three welt pockets, this blazer is the epitome of the minimalist modern look. It’s now $65.66 at Nordstrom, down from $98!
- The Bow-tie Blouse: Another of our favorites when it comes to menswear is
the traditional blouse adorned with an elegant bow- tie or pussybow. it gives any blouse a nice retro, menswear-inspired feel, while still being ultra-polished for the office. Pair it with a pencil skirt, or dressy trousers, and you’ve just turned the menswear trend into into your most professionally elegant style. For our pick, check out this Dorothy Perkins white long-sleeve pussybow top we found through Polyvore.com. At $44, it’s an inexpensive and pretty stylish buy.
- The Patent Loafers: Last but not least, our last menswear-inspired piece we’d
recommend for the office is the patent loafer. Now some of you may be hesitant when it comes to sporting flats at the office, and even more hesitant when it comes to patent loafers. Being on the short side height-wise, and while I do favor heels most of the time, for those days when I do sport flats, I do tend to reach out for my favorite loafers. They are perfect with dressy tapered pants, or even a nice skirt set or casual skirt. They look very professional while adding comfort to style. We’ve found our pick through MSN: these Trotters Liz Patent at 6pm.com are not only sleek and stylish, but also boast a cushioned leather footbed which promises nothing but comfort! At $36.99, they are a steal!
