Week-End Pick: Off-the-shoulder top

Our Week-End Pick features a piece of clothing or an accessory that complements any corporate sister’s week-end wardrobe.

Off-shoulder top fans, breathe easy! The trend is not disappearing with Summer going away. Actually, it’s transitioning quite well into the Fall with flattering, fun long-sleeve off-shoulder tops like this Re:Named cutout version from Shopbob. The cutouts are a nice touch to this cool top too! And at $65, the price is not too bad either!

I also like this silk version from Gilt for a casual and chic date night, or this peasant top version from Zappos. If you’re in a  splurging mood, this Caroline Constas loose-fitting number is a great pick , although you could go for this less expensive BCBG Max Azria graceful one.

There are also great plus-size options, like this ASOS Curve lightweight ribbed top, or this belted satin beauty perfect for a night out with the girls.

Our Corporate Catwalk feature selects a piece of clothing or an accessory that complements any corporate sister’s wardrobe.

As we’re slowly transitioning into Fall (and so are our work wardrobes), I’m toning down my bright colors and buying into more nude and muted tones. Like on this chic Kate Spade New York pleated midi two-tone skirt.

Loving the elegant pleating on this classic skirt which never goes out of fashion! The black and nude colors complement each other beautifully, as the length is simply perfect for work and fun! Bonus: it’s on sale for $120 at Neiman Marcus.

I also like this quite similar (and less expensive) pleated midi skirt from Nordstrom,  this bright Topshop chiffon number, oh and this gorgeous ASOS white beauty too! If you feel like splurging, this REISS Eli skirt is to blush for, while this Lamarque leather version is edgy but classy!

There are also some elegant plus-size options for pleated skirts, including this blue lined chiffon number from ASOS CURVE, and this Eliza J plaid version.

Workwear: 5 Tips to Transition Your Work Wardrobe From Summer to Fall

Workwear: 5 Tips to Transition Your Work Wardrobe From Summer to Fall

Workwear: 5 Tips to Transition Your Work Wardrobe From Summer to FallYou know it’s time to think about transitioning your work wardrobe from Summer to Fall when that fresh Fall breeze starts messing with your sleeveless sheath dresses a la Michelle Obama. Or when that flimsy cardigan you keep on hand to keep from freezing over in the office starts demanding a more autumnal upgrade.

As sad as it can be to wave good-bye to the warm months of summer (and to that blasting office A/C), lighter work outfits, and bright pedicures, it can also be a time of renewal and change, including for your wardrobe. Yet, that doesn’t mean you have to invest in a whole new wardrobe, or re-engineer your closet.

Workwear: 5 Tips to Transition Your Work Wardrobe From Summer to Fall

After many wardrobe faux-pas, unnecessary expenses and hilarious fashion snafus, here are some of the best tips I learnt about transitioning your wardrobe from Summer to Fall, minus the stress, wallet drain and fashion incoherences:

Blazer it Up!

One of the first signs of Fall weather in my work wardrobe is the migration of my blazers from the depths of my closet to my chill shoulders. There’s something about Fall that just makes you want to look more pulled together (and feel warmer)!

So gently thank your lighter cardigans for their summer shift, and diplomatically replace them with more tailored, fitted blazers. I like this Wallis ribbed ponte blazer that goes with pretty much anything you may own…

Switch Your Shoe Game!

There’s nothing elegant about freezing your toes out because you decided July should never end! Start welcoming the Fall in your wardrobe with more appropriate shoes, even if that means pairing that pair of cute booties with your summer dress.

For those who still want to show off last week’s pedicure, these Bella Vita Zip-front booties are perfect! Or you could always go for a more conservative, chic style with these elegant Vince Dryden low-heel ankle booties from Shopbop.

Dig Out Your Scarves!

Fall is the quintessential “scarf season”! It’s fresh enough that you can wrap them around your neck for warmth, and warm enough to show them off! Not to mention that chic “je-ne-sais-quoi” they instantly add to your entire look!

I like this Eileen Fisher Print Silk and wool scarf from Nordstrom. And if you’re into your wild side, this Sole Society leopard print scarf is a winner!

Fade Out Your Colors!

I’m the first one to go for an all-colorful, bright look, even at work. Yet, as the seasons change, and Summer starts to fade out, I’ve learnt to tone down my brights. I’m not completely giving up on them though. I’d still pair a colorful skirt with a darker top or blazer. Or a bright top with darker slacks.

My favorites are silk blouses like this Alice + Olivia high-low peplum crepe top, which pairs beautifully with a bright bottom.

Factor in the tights!

Ok, this is not my favorite “season transitioning” tip here, but one that may be necessary and even stylish if you know how to pull it! I’m not the biggest fan of tights, so whenever the weather starts getting cooler, I start looking for fun, interesting, yet still work-appropriate tights…

Like these sheer dot tights from Ann Taylor.

#TechTuesday: Back to School Gadgets Every Professional Can Use

#TechTuesday: Back to School Gadgets Every Professional Can Use

In the midst of all the “Back-to-School” buzz going on, there are quite a few tech tools and gadgets catching our attention (and wallets). And some of them are not just for the tech-savvy high-school or college student, but can actually be a nice addition to your work and lifestyle gadget collection.

Not being a techie myself, I’m not into collecting tech gadgets (or setting up a tent outside Apple all night waiting for the next iPhone generation). Yet, I have to say some tools are definitely worth their investment weight in added efficiency, lessened headaches and even some added fun in the process.

Here are my corporate-sister, mommy-approved picks for back-to-school tech gadgets every professional can also use, even if we’re not heading to school or college this year:

Bed Alarm Clock - Photo Credit: techlicious.com

Beddi Alarm Clock

For all those out there (like yours truly) who have trouble getting ejected smoothly transitioning out of the bed, this intelligent Beddi alarm clock may just be your new “thang”. It integrates Spotify to allow you to wake up to your favorite Beyonce, or Mozart tune; allows you to gradually wake up to natural light, and you can even directly call Uber with it when your car decides not to start… Price: $99

FTW2102_main Fossil Q Wander Smartwatch

Consider this the stylish alternative to the Fitbit! This Fossil Q Wander Smartwatch from Fossil in this flattering rose-gold tone tracks your steps, counts your calories, and lets you know when you receive texts, calls and app updates. A tiny LED flashlight is even built into it so you can find your keys in your messy full tote bag. Price: $315

Plantronics BackBeat GO 3 Wireless Earbuds

I love a good, sturdy pair of earbuds when listening to podcasts or music at work, or even tuning in to the latest work training on my laptop. These Plantronics BackBeat GO 3 wireless earbuds not only connect to your smartphone, but also to your laptop or tablet. And one charge lasts you over six hours. You can buy these without the charging case, but I’d recommend investing the extra $30 for peace of mind! Price: $129.99

HP Deskjet 3755 - Photo credit: in style.com

You can also print without a network, as it connects effortlessly to any of your devices via Bluetooth. Price: $70
